MS "Artania" awaits our arrival. During the last year she has been refurbished and updated by the Bloom and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. We have traveled on the "Artania" during one of our Western Mediterranean cruises and we hold her in best memory. We are sure that she shall serve us well once again in the Western Hemisphere.

Our last impression of Rio de Janeiro observed from board of MS "Artania" was the world famous Rio de Janeiro statue of our Divine Redeemer, our Lord Jesus Christ. His impression on us will remain with us for as long as we shall live.

Since Chile has now an ultra-left oriented presidency, visitors from abroad are easily identified by the local criminals and therefore frequently and relentlessly robbed of the valuables in their possession. Hence, we elected to visit the one place in Santiago de Chile, where we could feel reasonably protected against local hoodlums: The change of the Carabinieri Guards in front of the Municipal Palace. Please enjoy the images depicting Chile's finest. By the way, we also made it back safely to our hotel near the airport.

With regard to our subsistance, we were never without the for us familiar foods: i.e. German beer (Kunstmann Lager) and German cookies ("Spekulatius").

Duchess Heide: "Who are all those people?"

En route from Montevideo, Uruguay, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, we crossed the last resting place of the German pocket battleship "Admiral Graf Spee." (Named for German Navy planner and war hero of WW I.) She had previously successfully battled with a British Battle Group that had had the mission to destroy her. Seriously damaged, insignificant repairs during an extremely limited harbor time in Montevideo forced her Captain Hans Langsdorff to scuttle her in the river plate esturary. The Captain shot himself in a hotel room in Buenos Aires. Twenty three major enemy warships had been deployed to look for her. The surviving German sailors were welcomed by German immigrants in Argentina and Paraguay to stay with them until the end of World War II.

Having rounded Cape Hoorn is an extraordinary achievement honored by an appropriate certificate from the Phoenix Cruise Line.

The centre monument above is dedicated to the seafarers who perished in the line of duty at Cape Hoorn. This memorial at the "End of the World" is prominently known as "The Albatros Monument."

It commemorates over 800 ships lost around Cape Hoorn and over 10,000 sailors found their cold, watery graves in this particular area.

Of all capital cities visited during our Southern Hemisphere cruise, Buenos Aires was definitely the most dangerous, exciting, rumbunctious and intriguing one. Our descriptions will definitely not do her complete justice; however, we shall try. - Four personalities govern the reputation of this capital city to this very day.

1) President General Juan Peron, 2) Argentina's First Lady Evita Peron, 3) Soccer Hero Diego Maradona and 4) World wide Tango King Carlos Gardel

The above photograph of the Palace characterizes the Homeland of Emperor Charles V and his plans for the future of Brazil. However, this was not to be; still educated folks remember her and him for wonderful and charitable deeds throughout their entire reign.

In local folkloric displays of affection, the last three personalties rank in the public affirmation the highest. See the picture below.

The Basic Outline of Our Epic Voyage

We did not depart shipboard in Montevideo, Uruguay, because we could observe all relevant/important buildings from where we were:

1) Harbor Administration, 2) Smaller Naval Vessels in Port, 3) The Opera House in the City,

4) Storage and Dock Facilities.

We conclude this geographic documentary with two gorgeous Chilenien Fjords. It is also a gigantic tribute to God's most beautiful creation.

It is not our desire to further comment on the three gentlemen pictured above; their reputations are established worldwide, anyone can research them on the Internet.

However, Evita is a most special lady, almost Saint-like. We should like to break a lance for her in this documentation. She had entered into final rest on 26 July 1952 and is still being actively visited by millions over the years, who worship and renown her for the great maltitude of favors she has done for Agentinians.

As a little boy, residing in the Ruhr District of Germany, I saw her worshipped on the news programs as a lady that had purchased hundreds of Cadillac ambulances and hearses, so destitute Argentinians could at least one time in their lives ride in a luxurious vehicle to the hospital or to the cemetary. Argentinians, still to this very day, thank her for that, making her unforgotten forever. We don't see, why the current Roman Catholic Pope has not canonized her yet; but then again, he, by his own admission, has a difficult time differentiating between what is right or wrong.

Because of our dedicated efforts, Evita is now a most active subject for Beatification/Canonization by the United Roman-Ruthenian Church.
